How Long Does Stamped Concrete Last?
Stamped concrete lasts 30 to 40 years with proper care. Most of the upkeep goes into the surface: periodic resealing protects the color and pattern, which usually show wear before the concrete itself does.
What Wears Stamped Concrete Down
Stamped concrete wears mostly from weather, traffic and salt. Freeze-thaw cycles, cars on a stamped driveway, and deicing salt all work on the surface. Cecil County’s building code rates the area’s weathering potential as severe, so winter is the main stress here.
Resealing
Resealing periodically protects the color and the pattern. Ask us about a schedule for your installation when we finish the job.
First-Winter Care
First-winter care matters most for new stamped concrete. Skip rock salt during that first winter and use sand for traction instead.
Signs Stamped Concrete Needs Attention
Stamped concrete usually shows it needs attention before it needs repair: the color looks dull or faded, the sheen is gone along the paths people walk most, or small patches of the surface start to flake. Resealing at the first sign of wear is far easier than restoring a worn surface later.
Is It Worth the Cost?
Whether stamped concrete is worth the cost depends on how long you’ll use the space. It starts around $34.37 per square foot on a patio-size job with color and pattern included, and a recent 10 by 16 foot patio came to $5,500. Spread over 30 to 40 years of use, that cost can look very different. Our post on stamped vs. colored concrete explains the finish options, and our Stamped Concrete page covers pricing.
